Marcello Varallo

Former skier and organiser of the World Cup races in Alta Badia

Marcello Varallo was born in Milan on October 8, 1947. His sportive career started when he did his military service. Only two years after his service, Varallo was admitted into the national team.

Between 1967 and 1974 he was able to achive high rankings, for example his 5th position in the World Cup race in Gardena in 1970, whereas in the Olympic games of 1973 he achieved the 10th position. He proved to be the best downhill skier of the national team and in 1973 he came third overall, after Colombin and Russi.

Since 1980 Marcello Varallo, owner of one of the most famous hotels in La Villa, has been organising the World Cup race in alpine skiing. Moreover he holds the office of the president of the tourism authority of Alta Badia.
