The Maratona dles Dolomites has become the dream of every ambitious cycler. The first edition of this race traces back to the 1980s, when only 166 athletes took place in this event. Today, however, every year thousands of cyclers take part in this event, so that the number of participants had to be limited.
The routing of this race is really unique, as athletes have to master an extremely long course across mighty mountain passes. If you would like to participate, there are different routes at choice: long (138 km and 4,190 m altitude difference), medium (106 km and 3.090 m altitude difference) and Sella Ronda (55 km and 1,780 m altitude difference) as well as the Sellaronda (55 km and 1.780 m drop). Every year more than 1000 spectators cheer the athletes on.
This cycling race is considered to be the most famous cycling marathon in Europe. Unique is not only the routing, but also also the setting of the race, as the Dolomite mountains serve as stunning backdrop for the race. Figures regarding participants reveal that this race must be quite special: cyclers from more than 30 nations participate!
