This woman from Alta Badia has got various athletic talents

Maria Canins - who does not know her? She is born on June 6, 1949 in La Villa and is one of the most famous inhabitants of the valley.

From 1969 to 1982 Maria Canins has been a very successful cross-country skier. Fifteen times she was Italian champion in this sport. Moreover she was the first Italian to win the cross-county skiing competition “Vasaloppet” in Sweden.

When she was 32 years old, she became famous in another sport, which is cycling. The “flying mother”, how she was affectionately called as she already had a child when she started her cycling career, won the Tour de France In 1985 and 1986 as well as the Giro d’Italia in 1988.

Also in mountain biking Maria Canins is double world champion and double Italian champion! Really an amazing woman!
