Kirche Kolfuschg

S. Vigilio parish church

The church of Colfosco has been constructed in late Gothic style.

This picturesque church, located along the raod to Passo Gardena, belongs to the characteristic elements of Colfosco. Moreover scenery seems to be a fairytale, as the rugged and steep rock faces tower in the background…

However, this church can look back on an animated past. Before it was passed on to Laion, S. Cristina, Fassa and Pieve di Livinalongo, it has once been part of Albes. Only some years ago the church has been consigned to the deanery of Val Badia.

The church of Colfosco was mentioned for the first time in 1419. Between 1629 and 1869 is has been restaured several times. The church is characterised by a new Gothic narthex, a tower featuring pointed arch windows as well as a bulbous spire.

In the interior, there is a high altar dating back to the 19th century, established by Johann Valentin from Badia. Moreover the middle alcove shows a painting of Our Lady, of Perpetual Succour, dating back to the 18th century.
The statue of San Vigilio, which is very precious, has been replaced and the original is kept in safe custody! :-)
