Snowshoe hike La Val

This extensive snowshoe hike leads us through an untouched winter landscape near the hiking village of La Val, located at the sunny slope at an altitude between 1,500 and 2,000 m a.s.l

La Val (Wengen, in German) is located at a sunny slope of a side valley of the Alta Badia, right on the edge of the Fanes Group. Starting point of our hike is the parking space "Rü de Rugialt". To get there we drive from La Val into the valley, past the hamlets of Tolpei and Fontanela. First we follow the path no. 16 towards "Rit" and "Pares". We hike uphill through the wood and across snowy meadow clearings. Almost the entire route consists of forest paths and is not difficult but the amount of snow makes it a bit more challenging today.

Shortly after the Jägerhütte, a little wooden hut along the way, we reach a junction where we follow the marker no. 13 towards Rit. Now our hike proceeds flatly at about 2,000 m asl, below the peaks of Mt. Sas de Crosta and Mt. Pares. Where the forest clears, we enjoy a gorgeous view on Mt. Cima Nove, Mt. Punta Antonius, Mt. Sass de Putia and the Gardenaccia Highland, later also on Mt. Plan de Corones. Up here unspoilt landscape awaits us, only some hare's traces cross the fresh snow. Past picturesque wooden huts we pass the Crusc da Rit viewpoint, from there we follow the path no. 6 towards Ju da Rit.

Our descent always proceeds along the path no. 6 and leads us through the nice winter scenery of the Viles Biei, Runch and Ciablun with view on the ancient church tower of La Val and the St. Barbara Chapel. Following the road we come back to our starting point. The lonely snowy alpine landscape, idyllic hamlets and the view on the Dolomites give this tour a particular attraction.

Please note: We recommend to take food and drink because there are some rest points only at the end of the tour.
