Traditional horse-drawn sleigh races provide unforgettable winter experiences in Alta Badia.
Even if horses are not any longer used as workhorses as they used to, they still have an important role to play in everyday life as well as in tradional events organised on a regular basis. Particularly popular in Alta Badia are Haflinger and Noriker horses.
It’s been more than 20 years now that horse racing competitions are organised regularly in Alta Badia. These competitions show that a sleigh ride does not necessarily have to be a cosy and calm event. However, one of the most important races takes place on Carnival Sunday at the foot of the World Cup race track Gran Risa in La Villa.
Other events you don’t have to miss are the skijörning races. This discipline comes from Scandinavia and involves the participants on skis to be drawn by the horses. Of course there are also several fringe events, including ski shows and a snow groomer’s ballet.
