The Val Mezdì, also called Val Mesdì, is located in the heart of the Sella mountain group and a scenic mountain panorama. This is also where some scenes of the famous movie "Cliffhanger" with Silvester Stallone have been filmed. But this is not the only reason why this valley is very famous...
Val Mezdì is about 3 km long and features a drop of 1,100 metres. At the foot of the valley, there is the locality of Colfosco. The average descent of the valley is 34%, better not to mention the maximum descent... :-)
Figures reveal that freeriding down this narrow couloir is not for the faint-hearted. Only experts should dare to face this challenge, as Val Mezdì is really steep and bounded by craggy rock faces . The Val Mezdì freeride race has already been staged in the 1940s. Today, however, it is one of the classic freeride races in the East Alpine region.
It may be self-evident that this race is reserved for experienced freeriders, who take part at their own peril. However, this race is really spectacular... not only for those who participate, but also for those who watch the freeriders skiing down Val Mezdì, among the rugged rocks of the Sella mountains.
