Sella Ronda Ski Marathon
The international Sellaronda Ski Marathon is a classic ski touring race in the Dolomites.
Doubtlessly the Sellaronda Ski Marathon is unique! A team taking part in this nighttime competition each consists of two people. Equipped with touring skis, skins that are slapped on these skis as well as a headlamp they race round the Sella alpenstock and overcome the four Dolomite passes Sella, Gardena, Campolongo and Pordoi, connecting the localites Corvara, Arabba, Canazei and Selva Gardena. These localites alternate in hosting start and finish of this ski touring race.
The drop the athletes have to overcome on 42 km is about 2,700 metres. The race does not only require specific workout, but also demands from the athletes adaptability regarding tempertaure and changing weather conditions. This is one of the reasons why this race is reserved for professionals. Not for nothing this race is world-famous.
Exciting is the race not only for participants, but also for spectators - especially the mass start as well as the finish.
