The Val Mezdì, or Val de Mesdì in Ladin language, is located in the heart of the Sella Group. This is also where some scenes of the famous movie “Cliffhanger” with Silvester Stallone have been filmed. But this is not the only reason why this valley is very famous…
Figures reveal that freeriding down this narrow couloir is not for the faint-hearted. Only experts should dare to face this challenge, as the Val Mezdì is really steep and bounded by craggy rock faces. It is about 3 km long and features a drop of 1,100 m. The average descent of the valley is 34%. At its foot, there is the locality of Colfosco.
Also a freeride race has already been staged here in the 1940s, in the early freeride times. In the early 2000 years, however, the race, one of the classic freeride races in the East Alpine region, has experienced a comeback as “Alta Badia Dolomites Freeride Race”.
