Armentara Meadows and La Crusc in winter

Not only in summer, the landscape below Mt. Sasso di Santa Croce is a worthwhile destination - the snowy landscape and the shining rocks make a hike also in winter a beautiful experience

The village of Badia, more precisely the hamlet of San Leonardo, is starting point of our hike across the Armentara Meadows to the La Crusc Pilgrimage Church (Santa Croce, that's to say Holy Cross). Starting point is one of the parking spaces near the valley station of the chair lift where we first walk through the village past the church and then follow the marker "Roda de Armentara" towards north. At the junction at the end of the village we follow marker no. 7A and leave the ploughed road.

The path proceeds past ancient mills through the Val Valacia valley and past the hamlet of Cialaruns. The ascent to the Armentara Meadows takes about 90 minutes. Arrived there, we comfortably walk along the cross-country ski track to the Ranch de Andre mountain hut where we enjoy our deserved lunch break. The second part of our winter hike leads us again uphill to the La Crusc Pilgrimage Church straight beneath the mighty rock faces of the Fanes Group.

The path no. 15A which connects La Crusc and the Armentara Meadows is levelled and quite flat (only one short ascent). After about one hour we reach the mountain hut and the church of La Crusc. For our way down into the valley again, we take the La Crusc cable car and the chair lift.

Please note: in our case, the section Badia - Armentara was well-trodden. If you want to do this walking tour immediately after fresh snow, snow shoes could be required!
