Winter sports and gourmet cuisine can perfectly be combined - this is what the culinary events in the Alta Badia prove
Until 2016, every year in January Alta Badia was the venue for a very special event, combining haute cuisine, winter sports and charity: the "Chef's Cup South Tyrol". At the centre of attention were about 100 top chefs and wine gourmets as well as a number of sports events on the famous Gran Risa slope. The "Chef's Cup South Tyrol", founded by Norbert Niederkofler, top chef with three Michelin stars, has been replaced by "Care's - The ethical chef days". Since 2017, for this event Norbert Niederkofler has united in Alta Badia the world's leading chefs, winemakers and food professionals to discuss a sustainable approach to gastronomy.
At the start of the skiing season in December, however, the Michelin stars of the valley are celebrated: the so-called "Michelin-starred brunch" represents the official start of the culinary season on the slopes of the Alta Badia. 10 starred chefs present 10 different gourmet recipes created for 10 mountain huts in Alta Badia which will be served all winter long.
Another famous event on the ski slopes is the "De dl vin", the Wine Skisafari taking place in March, which presents the best regional red and white wines as well as sparkling wines in the participating ski huts. At the "Roda dles Saus", the "Gastronomic Circuit" in March, however, the focus is set on the traditional Ladin cuisine. The huts in the La Crusc (Holy Cross) area offer for a whole week authentic flavours of the Ladin tradition.
