Hike to the Col Plö Alt via the Gardenaccia

The Gardenaccia Highland on the western slope of the Val Badia is an ideal viewpoint on the valley and the Fanes Group.

From La Villa, the Gardenaccia Chairlift takes us up to 1,780 m asl. Here our walk on the trail no. 5 starts, leading us across a coniferous forest. We follow the indications to the Rif. Gardenacia mountain hut and proceed the way up - the path is well-maintained. After about 40 minutes, we reach the meadow on which the mountain hut is located. This is where we can enjoy a perfect view of the snow-covered glacier of the Marmolada and the peaks of Mt. Sassongher and Mt. Para dai Giai.

From this point our tour follows the signpost no. 1A towards north. Constantly the way up, through high-alpine meadows on which different herbs grow, we continue. On the left side there are rough rock formations, deep down on the right, there is the valley. We've walked about one hour now, and we can already see the cross on the summit. From this place we enjoy a great view of the Fanes Group with the peaks of the Sasso di Santa Croce, Lavarella, Conturines, Fanes, Croda del Becco, Lagazuoi and Settsass, but also towards north, where we can see the main Alpine divide, and in the north west, towards Mt. Sass de Putia. For the way back, we take the same path.

Even if we walked up to 2,330 m a.s.l., the tour is not too difficult. Worth noticing are only the first section up to the mountain hut and a further narrow place at the rocks before you reach the cross on the summit. Otherwise the walk proceeds via extended meadows. Especially in the afternoon, the view towards east is fantastic!
