Mt. Sasso delle Dieci (Sas dles Diesc, in Ladin language) is the highest peak of the Sasso di Santa Croce Group, a mountain group belonging to the Fanes Group in the Dolomites. It is located on its western border and the border to the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, a true paradies for hikers, and dominates the Val Badia valley. We start our high mountain tour at the La Crusc Pilgrimage Church at 2,045 m asl, high above San Leonardo in Badia.
To reach our starting point, we take the chairlift from San Leonardo in Badia up to the intermediate station at 1,841 m asl - of course, you can also get there by foot, e.g. from the village La Val along the Armentara Trail). On trail no. 7 we reach the pilgrimage church in less than half an hour and continue towards south through pine woods, along the impressive mountain range.
On an easy fixed rope route we reach the Forcella della Croce ridge at 2,612 m asl and enjoy the wonderful panorama. From here, leaving trail no. 7, we continue towards north along the mountain ridge, until we reach the pyramidal peak of the Sasso delle Dieci at 3,026 m asl. Attention: the last section is very exposed, requesting agility and some mountain experience and you may not suffer from vertigo. Take the appropriate equipment with you!
Please note: this tour can be done by everybody until the mountain ridge. The ridge itself is recommendable only to experienced alpinists. The panoramic view on the Dolomites is breathtaking and includes Mt. Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo, the Monte Cristallo, the Sorapiss Group, the Tofane peaks, Mt. Marmolada (the highest peak of the Dolomites), the Sella Group with Mt. Piz Boé, Mt. Sassolungo, the Odle Group and the Puez Group with Mt. Sass de Putia. Recommended season: summer or early autumn.
