Hiking to the Armentara pastures and S. Croce pilgrimage church

The walk to the S. Croce church is one of the most popular spring walks in Alta Badia.

The Armentara pastures, located above La Valle, are particularly striking due to the sea of flowers that covers these meadows in the months of spring… a real must-see! Primroses, globe-flowers, anemones and gentians as far as the eye can see.

Our hike starts slightly below, at Furnacia, where also the trail “Roda de Armentara” starts. After a one-hours’ walk across the forest we arrive at the blossoming Armentara pastures. From a geological point of view, these meadows are located in the west end of the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park. If you wonder how the striking mountain peaks in the background are called: Sass dles Diesc and Sasso Croce.

We continue our walk, after half an hour of walking we reach our next hiking destination, which is Sasso Croce hospice and the homonymous pilgrimage church.

For your way back we recommend you to take the La Valle high path, which is characterised by a great panoramic view.

Walking time: about 2 hours for the ascent
Altitude: La Valle 1,348 m, S. Croce pilgrimage church 2,045 m asl
Course: about 6 km
Altitude difference: about 400 m
Signposts: Roda de Armentara, 7A, for the way back (or up) you can also take the trail 15A
